Minnesota Services
Minnesota is known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, although it technically has well over 15,000. The name Minnesota comes from a Dakota word for "sky-tinted water" and it is these waters, together with forests, parks, and wilderness areas that offer a variety of outdoor recreation to residents and tourists. Minnesota's main activities revolve around water in the warmer months, such as water skiing, boating, canoeing, and fishing. It is usual for residents to have lakeside cabins in which they spend long weekends and holidays. Hockey, curling, snow sports and broomball replace these activities through their long, harsh winters.
The people of Minnesota have a strong interest in environmentalism and regular exercise which aids in ranking Minnesota among the healthiest states in America. Over seventy state parks and forests are used year-round for hunting, camping, and hiking. Shakopee is a popular destination boasting Casinos, festivals and amusement parks.
