The state's name comes from the Spanish word montaña, meaning mountain. In contrast to the grandeur of the west, the east of Montana is comprised of flat regions rich in agricultural resources, scenic valleys and rivers.

The mountains offer hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, climbing, horseback riding and Wagon Train Adventures. Montana is now also home to some of the best skate parks in the country.
