Washington, D.C. is the capital of the United States. It is a iconic and metropolitan city that draws multitude of tourists every year. It has a northerly subtropical climate with cool breezes and moderate temperatures.
The amount of landmarks, museums and attractions that are free to the public is far superior in size and scope to any other area in the world. The National Mall is where you can see monuments, memorials, museums, and government buildings all within walking distance from each other. These are seen as icons of the world's wealthiest and most powerful nation by visitors from all around the globe.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is held in late March, early April. Washington D.C. comes alive with colour every year in harmony with the promenade around the Tidal Basin. The National Opera, National Symphony Orchestra, and National Ballet Company are all in residence here at The Kennedy Centre. Classical performances here are plentiful and varied.
Rock Creek Park is a national park covering nearly 2,000 acres of thickly forested hills full of deer squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, birds, and even a few coyotes. It contains one of the nation's best biking and running trails that extends from the Lincoln Memorial way out into Maryland. Other than recreational pathways the park includes a golf course, picnic spots, a golf course, a boat rental centre on the Potomac and a variety of educational programs. In the warmer months Rock Creek Park hosts free open air performances including some by the renowned National Shakespeare Theatre Company.
